During World War One, Bletchley flew Sopwith Pups with the Royal Flying Corps, but was forced to retire hurt before the war ended.[1] He sufficiently recovered from his injuries to remain in the Air Force, retaining his proficiency in aircraft handling (as shown by his use of a De Havilland Tiger Moth to fly to Bodkin Hazel to inform Hornet Squadron about the change in radio codes in August 1940).


Gained his nickname from his testicles, which hang down like a bag.
